About the Yoga Retreat
A yoga retreat Spain 2021... and in the Autumn, what's not to get excited about. I love this yoga retreat centre, It's like staying in someone's beautiful, very welcoming home. There is lots of space both indoor and outdoor.
The first thing you notice is the amazing light here, such a contrast to the usually grey October days in UK and the warmth - enough for bikini but not scorching. The view across to the Riff mountains of Morocco is stunning and gives a sense of spaciousness that invites you to breathe deeply. And the food...OMG, the food is almost as transforming as the two daily yoga practices that myself and Mike Farr (experienced Iyengar teacher), will be offering. I'm sure most of our returning students come back mainly for local chef's Kate & Tracey's (Tarifa Kitchen) inspired and creative cooking. The ingredients are all sourced locally and span moorish through to mediterranean and ayurvedic dishes.
This will be our 6th year of listening to the crickets, hearing the sound of the ocean and walking barefoot in the sand, swimming in the sea. Tarifa is the southern most tip of Spain, it is a wild, unspoilt part of this coastline that can be over commercialised. There is a laid back vibe here, that invites you to slow down; watch the waves and the kite surfers, or the migrating birds, spiralling vultures. To eat outdoors on a warm, balmy evenings gazing in awe at the sunsets and stars. We will have 2 daily yoga practices; Iyengar in the morning followed by brunch and restorative in the evening followed by dinner.
There will be plenty of time in-between to swim, read on a sun lounger, draw in the gardens, book a massage, take the 15 minute stroll down to the beach and walk along the endless shoreline. For those with a more adventurous spirit, there is kite surfing (this area is famous for it), hiking into the foothills, horse riding on the beach or SUP boarding. Or why not take a trip into Tariffa and admire the moorish architecture and hippy vibe or further along the coast to Baelo Claudia, an ancient Roman town. During our stay I will be offering a hike of approx 3-4hrs up into the foothills, following the Buddha Trail.
Give yourself the gift of a week out of your daily life to pause, reflect and transform.

Feedback from last yoga retreat in Tarifa
"Dear Soraya, you have created such a safe and nurturing space over the last week, guiding us through a fascinating exploration of our 'layers', enabling me to deepen my understanding and practice of yoga. A beautiful unspoilt part of Spain, wild beaches for contemplative barefoot strolls and some of the most delicious food I have ever tasted! You are a very special teacher - patient, creative, intuitive, empowering and I have learnt so much. Thank You"
"A completely nourishing retreat! I have learnt a great deal from Soraya, a much deeper understanding of what the practice can offer each and every one of us, especially if we are prepared to go through some pain barriers. The cuisine - wow, each meal was presented beautifully and with such love and care. The villa La Pena, very warm and welcoming"
Soraya's yoga week is an oasis of peace in our busy world. The villa accommodation is delightful and comfortable bedrooms with beautiful grounds and views of the coastline. The food is freshly cooked, diverse and delicious. Our group was great fun, we had the afternoons to sunbathe, walk or swim in one of the two pools. I think I can safely say that all of us had a wonderful week. Thank you Soraya for your gift of teaching yoga.
Teaching was fantastic, really enjoyed the progressions through chakras, feeling different emotions every day! Sankalpa work - a bonus, very necessary at the moment and very empowering, although challenging emotionally. The yoga and company provided a very open/safe/comfortable arena in which to practice/think/develop throughout the week. Villa and food exceptional, I look forward to coming back, thank you so much.
Words that spring to mind to describe the experience this retreat are: challenging, inspiring, nurturing and instructional. It has been a magical week with the contrast of intense concentration, focus and relaxation. The luxury of a beautiful setting and delicious food. A haven for kindred spirits of mixed experience with the common aim of physical and spiritual development.
After a week with Soraya, I feel in a completely different place in my life. I have never experienced such peace within my body, I hope to recapture/tune into this when I need it at home. The villa, studio, gardens, food etc are all to the highest standard, all the staff created lovely feeling, like living in their house. I can't say enough about Soraya and the yoga. The way she led us through the week was perfect. I found the readings/thoughts in the class an added bonus, I hope I will recall many of these thoughts. All in all a very nourishing week, I will really try to return.
The perfect environment and expert help to improve and progress in my yoga both physically and meditatively. The physical practice was facilitated so that I improve without straining and the restorative opened me both physically and emotionally.
